However, when we look at management theory from the perspective of research methods, we can acknowledge that it constitutes a forest of uniformity. Quantitative research, especially questionnaire survey, is the mainstream, while qualitative research occupies only a small portion of research. However, the pioneering era of the management theory was different from today. Pioneers of management theory, such as Taylor and Fayol, were practitioners and researchers. The field of management was both a place of actual practice and a place of research for them. They derive general principles of management through ethnography, which includes subjective experience, observation, and self-reflection, and so on.
